Dinosaurs! School Holiday Fun
Queensland Museum Rail Workshops
Updated: Sep 22, 2025
Queensland Museum Rail Workshops will be bursting with prehistoric fun as dinosaurs stomp, chomp and crash their way into the museum from September 20 to October 6.
Kids can step into the shoes of a palaeontologist and bring their building, crafting, and problem-solving skills for a roar-some adventure these school holidays. Dinosaurs didn’t leave us with selfies—so how do we know what they looked like? This holiday program invites children to discover how scientists recreate these giants of the past through the fossils and living creatures we see today.
Take on giant dinosaur puzzles, get hands-on in fossil-making workshops and let the imagination run wild with story time, pyjama party films, and dino-themed arts and crafts!

Kids can have roarsome fun piecing together giant dinosaur skeleton puzzles, which are custom-made especially for the museum! Set in a comfy, social space by the Tilt Train, these hands-on puzzles are perfect for curious minds and group problem-solving.
Daily from 10am - 2pm Drop-in activity, bookings not required.

Design-a-Dino is a hands-on craft activity where kids can unleash their creativity and bring Queensland’s dinosaurs to life in the Maker Space. With four unique templates to choose from, dinosaurs can be scientifically inspired or wildly fantastical!
Daily during Museum open hours. Drop-in activity, bookings not required.

Discover the secrets of prehistoric life, where fossils hold the clues to how dinosaurs looked and behaved, in the Maker Space. Here kids can explore real specimens like a palaeontologist, learn how they were formed over thousands of years, then make their own plaster ‘trace’ fossil - ready to take home the very same day!
Daily 10am - 2pm (last session 1.30pm) Walk-up sessions with limited capacity, bookings not required.

From inspiring true stories to playful dino adventures, Storytime sessions will spark curiosity and imagination for kids and families alike. Held daily at the studio at 10.30am, beautifully illustrated prehistoric tales to life are brought to life by a Vistor Experience Officer.
Daily at 10.30am, duration 30 minutes. Drop-in activity, bookings not required.

The giant dionsaur needs a name and kids are invited to get creative and give it a name by sharing it on social media. The giant dinosaur puzzle installation makes for the ultimate dino-sized backdrop so be sure to strike a pose and share your shots online for a roar-some social media moment by tagging @qmrailworkshops.

Kids are encouraged to come cosy in their PJs (or dino dress-ups!) and settle in for the Pyjama Party Screenings, a free family event featuring a curated selection of dino-themed movies. The fun and memorable cinema experience is held in the studio on Wednesdays and Thursdays:
