Uq Art Museum
St Lucia
The light filled hall that is the UQ Art Museum holds over 3000 works of Australian art, both historic and contemporary, in an impressive public collection that is worth a look.
Amongst the artistic luminaries whose work is included are Rupert Bunny, Rosemary Gascoigne, Sidney Nolan, Arthur Streeton and Charles Conder while a fascinating historical depth is added by a couple of colonial artist Conrad Martens paintings from the days of first settlement and one by convict artist Thomas Wainewright of Sir John Franklin.
In addition to the Australian art there is also a collection of Chinese antiquities that were bequeathed in the past decades.
Admission is free at all times.
