Newstead River Walk

This charming Newstead riverfront walk of approximately 2km return passes Brisbane's by oldest house and ends at Breakfast Creek Road.

The clearly signposted entrance to the riverwalk can be found opposite Gasworks Plaza so park in the streets around here, or alternatively, take a ferry to Teneriffe Terminal and walk 5 minutes along Skyring Tce towards the plaza.

The path follows the canal next to Pier One apartments before cutting through to the river. Here, on the waterfront underneath the apartments, you'll find The Fox's Hollow, a licensed cafe that make a perfect spot for a pre or post-walk bite to eat and coffee or cold drink.

Newstead River Walk

The first section of the wide boardwalk takes you past low-rise apartments blocks with established gardens until you reach the Newstead House waterfront estate with its manicured old-world gardens, benches and secret Alice in Wonderland park with a children's maze and White Rabbit tree.

Around the bend is the ornate rotunda and war memorial and a scattering of benches and picnic tables on the front lawns of the house. It is here that the river joins Breakfast Creek, and across the other side, the grand historic mansions of Hamilton can be seen gracing the hills.

Newstead River Walk

The path winds past Newstead House to reach the bridge across Breakfast Creek Bridge. Flow under the bridge and you'll arrive at the mega Mercedes Benz HQ.

Newstead River Walk

You can either return from here or continue over the bridge to the Breakfast Creek Hotel for a beer and some pub grub. From there, the path passes under the bridge on the northern bank of Breakfast Creek and joins up with Hamilton's Lores Bonney Riverwalk, which features a dedicated pedestrian path and leads all the way to Portside Wharf. That path will add approx. another 45 minutes return to your walk

Newstead River Walk

Need to know - Although the Newstead River Walk is fairly exposed, with no shade, it is a cool and breezy walk as this is a wide stretch of the Brisbane River. The Lores Bonney Walk is also exposed with no shade, so if you're planning to combine both, it's best to do them early morning or later in the afternoon.
