Crank House Cyclery & Espresso Bar

Bardon

CRANK HOUSE CYCLERY AND ESPRESSO BAR HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

Crank House Cyclery and Espresso Bar is located on busy McGregor Terrace in Bardon, with a secret deck out back enjoying panoramic views of Brisbane.

This business is owned by local brothers, Mark and Brendan who are equally passionate about bikes and coffee.  For some this would seem like a match made in heaven, as the two seem to go hand in hand.

Shop front

Walking into this business there can be no doubt that this is a bike shop.  The front window shows off an impressive looking bike and inside striking artwork on a feature wall forms the backdrop for another display. Crank House sells a wide range of bikes and accessories with Ritte, Attaquer, Trek and Bontrager being amongst the brands customers will find at this boutique bike shop.  Staff here service and repair all types of bikes, from kids’ bikes up to high-end mountain and road bikes.  In fact, they can fix just about anything that is wrong with any bike. Computer fitting and set up is also available. A range of tattoo artwork is on display throughout the shop and is for sale. With a travel arm to the business (Adventure International Australia), cycling trips to destinations such as Tanzania and south Chile are also offered.

Barista making coffee behind counter

About the coffee ………at the rear of the shop is a small back deck where customers can enjoy the fantastic view to Mt Coot-tha, surrounding suburbs and distant mountains. During Jacaranda season the view becomes more spectacular, dotted with purple hues amongst the green of this area. Sitting out here it’s easy to forget that this shop is situated on such a busy road, as the traffic noise is all but non-existent.  With a rustic feel and bikes and bike parts creating the “cyclist vibe”, this is a very popular weekend choice for cyclists.

Road bicycle and helmet

Saint beans (from Cleanskin Coffee) make a great coffee, and the boys know just how to get the best out of these beans. Cleanskin Coffee sources the best green coffee from ethical and sustainable farms all around the globe and then roasts the beans at their business in Brendale, just north of Brisbane. The price for a cup of this exceptional coffee at Crank House is very reasonable and that view just makes the already great coffee taste even better. Whilst not being equipped to prepare food on the premises, the boys have no problem with customers picking up something from local businesses and bringing it with them to enjoy with a brew. During the busy season, Crank House sells a small range of local baked goods and small consumables.

Nice to know: On the wish list for the boys is a small lower courtyard to provide a space for kids and a little more shade – the wheels are in motion, so keep an eye out. It is worth noting that in warmer months the deck can be very hot, so come prepared with a hat and sunscreen.

In a nutshell: Whether your two wheels needs some attention or you need a caffeine fix, Crank House Cyclery and Espresso Bar offers friendly service, great coffee, spectacular views and a little bit of temptation if bikes are your passion.
