Trenino Trattoria
Clayfield
Trenino Trattoria is a charming Italian restaurant and bar located in a white Queenslander cottage it shares with EJ Station House in Clayfield.
Formerly home to local dining institution Wooden Horse, Trenino Trattoria is also by the owners of EJ Station House, with entry via a red door connecting the two.
Diners can take a seat in the cosy character-filled interior which features polished timber floors, red tiled tables and leather banquettes along the wall and enjoy Napoletano style pizzas and hand made pasta dishes.
Start with something delicious from the antipasto selection, such as caprese (Buffalo mozzarella, roma tomatoes, salsa verde); beef carpaccio with pickled mushroom, ricket, shaved parmesan, truffle aioli, cocktail onions & croutons; baked scallops with herb butter, pangragatto & lemon; or beef & pork meatballs with parmesan & basil.
Pasta dishes include fettuccine with prawns, zucchini, red onion, cherry tomato, chilli & EVOO: rigatoni with pea & mint puree, sundried tomato, burrata, chilli, pangrattato & herbs; spaghetti alla carbonara; and baked gnocchi with Buffalo mozzarella, pumpkin, pine nut & fried sage.
Pizza Rosso choices include margherita; prosciutto e funghi (sundried tomato, prosciutto, mushroom & basil); and Trenino (San Marzino tomato, prawns, mushroom, spicy salami, prosciutto, fior de latte), whilst Pizza Bianca toppings include salsiccia (Fior de latte, broccoli alla Napoletana, fennel & chilli pork, gorgonzola & truffle oil); and vegana (pumpkin, zucchini, smoked bell pepper, walnuts & cherry tomato).
There's also a handful of Secondi (mains) including Pescare Dentice (gold-band snapper, coconut lime emulsion, onion soubise, bok choy & fried enoki); and Melzane (baked eggplant, mozzarella, parmesan, basil & sugo), while for dessert you can choose from tiramisu; apple granita; Treninos white chocolate tart; gelato & berries or a cheese platter.
Drinks-wise, Trenino has a cracking list of cocktails, including Spritzes and other classics, along with local Aether beer and Italian Peroni on tap and a mix of Italian and Australian wines.
Good to know - There's also a Bambini (kids) menu, including cheesy pasta or spaghetti meatballs and formaggio (cheese) or margherita pizza.
