Garlic Clove Indian serves up delicious traditional and unique dishes, as well as Indian high tea from its home in an historic building opposite The Barracks, Petrie Terrace.
The cavernous high-ceilinged dining space features beautiful exposed brick walls, arches above the doors and windows, a banquette along one wall and a backlit bar.
For entree you'll find dishes like chilli chicken or paneer(Indo-Chinese); Hara Bara kebab (crunchy pakora with potato, chilli, vegtable panace & homemade spices) and Bombay fave Pau Bhaji (mashed veges with hot buttered home-made bun).
Tandoor dishes include Murgh Malai, GC Chicken Tikka (a family recipe), Masala Prawns, and Tandoori Pomfriet (whole fish marinated in tandoori spices), while Biryani dishes include Awadhi Lamb, Dum Chicken (marinated 24 hours) and Backyard Biryani (savoury jackfruit).
There's an extensive range of vegan and vegetarian dishes such as House Black Daal, Vegetable Jalfrezi. Mushroom Corn Masala and Vegetable or Mushroom Korma, while a selection of all-time favourite curries include Prawn Pepper Fry, Murg Malai Tikka and Mysore Chilli Beef.
There's also an extensive selection of traditional curries (korma, vindaloo, madras, bhuna, saagwala and kadai), as well as salads such as Punjabi, Spiced Cauliflower or Onion Salad. and sides like a bowl of greens, fried green chillies and Butter-Bhutta (Chowpatty Beach style with chilli, salt and lime).
A unique offering at Garlic Clove is the Indian High Tea (vegetarian or non-vegetarian) with a delicious selection of chat, street and finger food and sweets, served with Masala Chai (Italian Prosecco also available). High Teas need to be individually booked.
On the drinks menu there's a decent selection of well-priced wine by the glass or bottle, spirits (including whiskey from around the world), a few beers and a handful of classic cocktails, while non-alcoholic drinks include lassi, Indian Masala Chai Tea, soft drinks, juice and still or sparkling water.
Good to know - Garlic Clove has a sibling of the same name in Ormeau, where the chef/owners have established a loyal following.
