The Lodge Bar & Dining is an exquisite 2-storey restaurant and bar by iconic retailer Rodd & Gunn, occupying a stunning heritage-listed Queenslander on a corner of James St Fortitude Valley.
The unique food-meets-fashion concept sees Rodd and Gunn's retail outlet annexed to the restaurant and bar, so customers can browse the latest collections before adjourning next door for some bespoke food and premium drinks.
A contemporary lodge aesthetic permeates the building, with stone walls and columns and pale timber floorboards and ceiling, along with a touch of Queensland with hanging ferns and tropical greenery.
The ground floor, with entry from James Street, features a bar and dining alcoves at the front and a dining room at the rear, reached via a series of small corridors.
Upstairs is a luxurious lounge bar, with a wraparound balcony offering further seating and street views, as well as a private dining room available for functions and gatherings.
The bespoke food menu is a perfect match for the surroundings, with the option of A la Carte, a Shells menu or choice of two set menus, all served on beautiful table ware, including crystal and eatherware bowls and dishes.
On the Shells menu are half a dozen premium oysters (choose from Qld, Tas, NSW or SA) with a selection of six sauces (including house-made hot sauce; green mango mignonette & native pepper or beer battered with Greek yoghurt tartare). There's also an Eggs menu featuring heavenly caviar or trout roe tart with egg yolk, yoghurt and chives or 100g of the Caviar of the moment.
Crustacean dishes include miniature Moreton Bay 'bug roll'(a must try); Mud crab royale with essence of mud crab and lime; open fire grilled rock lobster with citrus-infused brown butter and highly Eucalyptus-grilled tiger prawns.
On the a la carte menu entrees include wood roasted cuttle fish with lardo, chilli and rosemary; heritage pork terrine, sauce gribiche and cornichons; salad of local citrus, marron, pistachio & Strachiatella.
Delectable mains include Blue crab spaghetti, sea urchin butter, bottarga, lemon & chives; Muscovy duck breast, carrot & blueberry; Margra lamb loin, glazed rib, spinach, mint sauce, burnt cream & lamb jus; and Coal roasted sun choke gnocchi, watercress & sunflower seed pesto.
Meanwhile the dessert menu includes Passionfruit pavlova, curd, sweetened cream & fresh passionfruit; Coffee Opera cake, banana & caramel; or Mango, coconut, tapioca coconut cookies.
From the bar you can enjoy signature cocktails such as 'Vodd & Gunner' (Broken Shed Vodka, East Imperial ginger ale & ginger beer, fresh citrus, sugar syrup, Angostura bitters; Botanical Daiquiri; Rose Gold Negroni; Black & Gold: Gin Old Fashioned and Kiwi Sunset.
The extensive wine list features predominantly French and New Zealand wines, with a small selection of Australian and a smattering of Portuguese, German and Argentinian wines.
