Vieille Branche is Albion’s best kept secret – a warehouse treasure trove of rustic French antiques and vintage wares with quaint in-house coffee lounge.

From its location in a leafy backstreet overlooking Albion Park, it makes a great place to sit outside and enjoy a cup of Bear Bones Espresso or settle inside on the furniture that is for sale.

Owners Jen and JC (a Frenchman who hails from Normandy) have used their exquisite taste to create a museum-like space that you want to linger in long after the coffee is finished and that is sought after for photo and film shoots and special events. (While the mezzanine level has individual studio rooms that are currently rented by artists and creative types).

The gorgeous furniture, lights and decorative pieces and wares, many of which have the French farmhouse vibe, date from the 1700’s to the 1970’s and are sourced several times a year from French markets.

Take a wander and in the furniture stakes you’ll find things like oak bedside tables, rocking chairs, vintage ladders, art deco style armchair-sofa beds, decorative sideboards, wrought iron wood stoves, industrial work benches and ornate dressers.

Meanwhile unique home wares and collectables range from brass candelabras, vintage soup tureens, pottery vinegar jars, copper kettles, tea cups and antique wine boxes to games of quoits, radiograms and record players (and, the day we visited, a 1920s architect wooden table game).

Nice to know: Future plans are for a cider bar and live performance space inside, and currently, one night a week French lessons are held inside Vielle Branche as well as the odd one-off art workshop. VB is also available for hire as a splendid space for functions and events.

Need to know: Vielle Branche is dog-friendly, with purpose-built hitching posts along the fence outside.
