Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon
Playhouse, QPAC
Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon is a rags-to-riches tale of glamour, turbulence, and blazing ambition, making its Australian premiere at QPAC, performed by Queensland Ballet, for a strictly limited season from October 4 to 19, 2024.
Renowned French fashion designer Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel lived a life of light and dark, glamour and controversy, but always as she alone intended.
Amidst the glitz and glamour of Jazz Age Paris, the trailblazing businesswoman redefined the world of fashion, creating stylish clothing for a new generation of modern women who were ambitious, intelligent, and rebellious.
Her iconic little black dress and bouclé jackets and skirts are now classic style staples seen all over the world, as her legacy continues more than a century later.
Masterfully choreographed by acclaimed Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, the Belgian-Colombian choreographer delves deep into the creativity, triumphs, moral complexities, and dark opportunism of Chanel’s complex life, from orphan to fashion legend.
This full-length narrative ballet is steeped in realism and beauty, featuring elegant sets and stunning costumes by the award-winning Jerome Kaplan, with artistic collaboration by Nancy Meckler, and an original music score by Peter Salem.
Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon is a co-production of Queensland Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet and Atlanta Ballet, first performed in Hong Kong, China, on 24 March 2023.
Don't miss the opportunity to witness this enthralling ballet that brings the captivating life of French designer Coco Chanel to life when it comes to QPAC in October.
