THE BROOKFIELD MARKETS HAVE CEASED TRADING.

Held on the first and third Saturday of the month, the laid-back Brookfield Markets are a popular weekend market,  away from the hustle and bustle of some of its city counterparts.

The drive out to Brookfield is only about 35 mins from Brisbane CBD, and the smell of the country air when you hop out of the car is sure to put a smile on your face.

Much-loved by families, these markets usually have more than 40 stalls and offer a great range of provisions and wares.

A wander around and you’ll meet a mix of local farmers, artists and artisan crafters who are happy to chat and share their story with you. The variety includes organic food & skincare, handmade clothing, earrings & jewellery, handcrafted leatherwork, and a wide range of arts & crafts in general.

You’ll be able to stock up for the week ahead, with freshly harvested fruit and vegies, meat, fish and poultry, plus cakes & bakery items, as well as pantry staples such as flavoured oils, jams, pickles and relishes, local hive honey and more.

The beauty of markets this size is that you get to know the regulars – many of them are small, family businesses who are very connected to and passionate about their products. This, coupled with a number of seasonal stall holders who pop-in when they can, and it guarantees the markets deliver something different each time you visit.

Avid gardeners will enjoy grabbing new leafy additions for the home and garden from local plant nursery stalls, with everything from seedlings, succulents, natives and other water-hardy plants to more established pot plants and fruit trees.

When hunger strikes, there’s heaps of foodie options to appease all ages and appetites.

With the markets open from early, the range is varied – from barista-made coffee, scrumptious pastries, artisan sourdough and healthy juices, to more substantial dishes to enjoy either on the spot or as take-home options for an easy & chill weekend meal.

A special treat for the kids that you don’t get to do at many other weekend markets is the chance to enjoy a pony ride. And, it’s not uncommon to see kids’ entertainers set up for the littlies to help to make it a fun morning out for the entire family.

Apart from the chorus of birdsong and the neigh of horses frolicking at the nearby pony club, the air is filled with music performed by talented musicians, adding to the gaiety of the atmosphere.

Nice to know – You can take your four-legged bestie with you as these are dog-friendly markets, just keep them on a lead. The markets sport stalls specialising in pet products, so you'll be able to pick up dog and cat food, and cute and fun pet-friendly toys and treats to take home, too.

Need to know – The markets are set-up in an upper, grassy field of the Brookfield Showgrounds, so if its been raining in the lead-up, be prepared for a little moisture under foot.
