Angel and Bear Patisserie-Bistro
Bowen Hills
ANGEL AND BEAR HAS MOVED FROM BOWEN HILLS TO THE GAP VILLAGE SHOPPING CENTRE.
Angel and Bear in Bowen Hills is a petite patisserie and secret bistro offering authentic European fare, from French baked goods to delicious gourmet meals.
Situated on Brookes Street, the charming split-level retro building houses a small bakery where - from the footpath - you can watch Belgium-born owner and pâtissier Daniel Martin craft croissants, tarts and other delectable treats; while upstairs a quaint dining room operates as a bistro on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 to 9 pm.
During the day, customers can enjoy a well-brewed cup of coffee while savouring a scrumptious macaron, cream-filled profiterolle, chocolate éclaire, or freshly-baked frangipane. For something more substantial, there are baguettes filled with the likes of smoked salmon, liver pâté, ham, chicken or tuna.
On weekends, diners can enjoy a delicious gourmet dinner upstairs in the secret bistro. The bistro menu is short and sweet, starting with fresh oysters, smoked salmon, seafood gratin or rillette (a preparation of cured and confit meat similar to pâté). Mouth-watering main dishes include tender grain-fed beef and chicken breast served with French fries and your choice of house made sauce: béarnaise, burgundy, mushroom tarragon, green peppercorn or provençale.
In addition, there's a tasty selection of chef-prepared casseroles to take home such as Flemish-style beef cooked in beer, beef goulash, goat ragout, and duck confit with orange sauce, also know as Duck a l'Orange.
