Steve Lopes: ‘Everyone’s Amazing’

Mitchell Fine Art

Updated: Nov 07, 2025

Steve Lopes returns to Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley with a new exhibition, ‘Everyone’s Amazing’, that captures the rich experience of our existence, showing until November 15.

While Lopes’ landscapes are representations of what he sees, the figures are often imagined personalities subsequently placed into the composition. He often works en plein air, painting vignettes of a place which are used as references for large-scale studio works.

An avid traveller, Lopes’ insatiable curiosity for new experiences drives his art, through which he connects the threads of history and place with the people who have shaped them. His work is constantly evolving. This is as much due to creative inspiration as self-challenge.

Steve Lopes is a Sydney based painter and printmaker known for his figurative landscape. In a career spanning over 25 years, the figure has always been central to Lopes’ oeuvre. Filled with expressive colour and bold imagery, Lopes combines complex compositions and narrative figures close to the artist’s life. He won the Gallipoli Art Prize and the Kings School Art Prize in Sydney. His works have been acquired in collections such as the National Art Gallery of Australia, Parliament House Art Collection, Canberra, BHP Billiton Art Collection and the Time Warner Collection in New York.

Good to know – An Artist Talk & Opening Event will be held on Saturday, November 1, from 2pm. This will be a wonderful opportunity for art lovers and enthusiasts as Steve delves deep into the inspiration for his artistic practice.
