Rearranged: Art of the Flower curates a contemporary collection inspired by floral motifs, spanning a myriad of mediums and varied viewpoints that capture the contextual landscape of Brisbane, now showing at the Museum of Brisbane until September 29, 2024..

Featuring over 20 established and emerging local artists, this exhibition breathes new life into the ever-popular subject of flowers. From paintings to textiles, sculptures, ceramics, and new media, the artists reimagine and reframe this beloved motif.

The showcase proudly embraces diverse perspectives, including those of queer, multicultural, and First Nations creatives, emphasizing the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities to Country and the universal fascination with flowers.

Step into a classic Queenslander room transformed into a salon in full bloom, showcasing works by renowned artists like Margaret Olley, Vida Lahey, William Bustard, Tony Johnson, Frank Waldo Potts, William Grant, Tony Johnson, and Dorothy Thornhill. Local contemporaries such as Michael Zavros, Keith Burt, John Honeywill, Bronwyn Searle, and Judith Sinnamon add their evocative touch to the display.

Visitors to MoB will encounter six arresting large-scale paper-arabesques adorned with flowers crafted from recycled garments by local artist Karen Stone. Blurring the distinction between inside and outside, the exhibition invites museum-goers to explore the vivacious gardens and buzzing backyards of Brisbane as envisioned by visual and still-life artists.

Intricate ceramic works by Jaishree Srinivasan, Clairy Laurence, and Sarah Rayner complement cutting-edge pieces by creatives like Boneta-Marie Mabo and Man&Wah. Contributions from Brisbane artists Norton Fredericks, Pamela See (Xue Mei-Ling), and Lyndall Phelps further enhance MoB's showcase of natural beauty.

Rearranged: Art of the Flower is a sensory journey, from classical depictions to edgy modern renderings. Still-life compositions and hyper-realistic paintings harmonise with stained glass artworks, rich textiles, and mixed media installations, creating a visually stunning and expressive display.
