Flying Colours

West End

Flying Colours is a cool ambient warehouse garden bar and restaurant on West End's Vulture Street, from the folks who brought Brisbane the laneway bar Super Whatnot.

Customers can take a seat out front in the split level terrace with its funky recycled terrazzo tables and patio furniture, flanked by garden lamps, greenery and retro beach umbrellas, or inside the cavernous warehouse.

The warehouse is split into a lounge bar with lowset seating and a DJ deck and vinyl library on one side and a high-ceilinged dining room on the other, featuring green leather booths, mirror ball and disco lighting.

The drinks menu offers four craft beers on tap as well as a small selection of bottled beer and cider, while the wine list is comprehensive, featuring an impressive curated list of boutique and natural wines. There's also a small cocktail menu including basil martini, margarita, Pimms cup and garden spritz.

Whilst Flying Colours exudes a casual drop-in neighbourly vibe, the food is sophisticated and next level, akin to what you'd find in an upmarket restaurant.

Choose from delectable snacks such as Abrolhos island scallop crudo, pomelo & horseradish; Hash brown, smoked mullet roe & egg salad; Smoked mussels, almond cream & toast; or FC hot dog, smoked pork cheek Frankfurt & mustard.

The small selection of equally delicious mains includes Pork cotteleto & winter greens; Grilled little acre mushroom & egg yolk; or Market fish in smoked butter sauce, while for dessert there's burnt vanilla creme caramel or almonf tart with rhubrab and rosemary.

Young diners are not forgotten, with a special kids menu that includes hot dog, fish and chips, steak and veggies, mortadella sandwich and vanilla ice-cream.

There's also a selection of charcuterie and terrines, served with Sprout sourdough and house-made pickles or artisan cheese with condiments and crackers.

Good to know - Dogs are welcome to join their owners in the outside areas. Flying Colours offers table service but gets busy so you'll need to flag down the waiters.

Need to know -  There is a limited amount of street parking on Vulture St and nearby side streets.
