Brisbane residents will be able to take the Brisbane Metro on the M2 route (formerly route 66) from UQ Lakes to RBWH when permanent services officially commence from January 28.

Brisbane Metro vehicles have clocked up more than 190,000 kilometres during testing in preparation for the system’s public debut.

Brisbane Metro passengers are provided with real-time travel information displays, on-board Wi-Fi and USB charging points and next-stop audio from Melanie Zanetti, whose voice went global for her role in the popular kids TV show Bluey.

Brisbane Metro buses have a 150 passenger capacity (up to 170 in event mode) and are 24.4m in length and 2.6m wide (double length of a standard bus) with three passenger compartments and a separate driver cabin.

Accessibility is enhanced with three large mobility aid bays, ten priority seats, low-floor design and audio and hearing loops in all compartments, with automated on-request ramp access at first passenger door.

The high-capacity high-frequency public transport system is designed to link the city to the suburbs, with the all new metros operating along dedicated busways to connect 18 stations from Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street, and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital to University of Queensland.
