Chung Tian Temple

Priestdale

On the outer edges of parklands and koala colonies is Chung Tian Temple, a peaceful Buddhist retreat with buildings in the Chinese palace architectural style of red and gold (the traditional colours associated with Emporers), protected by gargoyles and statues, each with their own life message.

The gardens contain plants thought to represent peace, a signature Bodhi tree and feature eighteen Arhat statues (figures that have transcended rebirth and possessing supernatural powers).

Of the buildings, there is the striking multi-storey traditional Chinese pagoda with three halls of worship, a museum full of ornate Chinese art works and artefacts, a Lotus Treasury Room where mirrors are thought to reflect the Buddha nature of those who look into them and the Water Drop Teahouse, where visitors can partake in a refreshing drink and delicious bite to eat. The tea room holds the significance in that the Chinese were first to discover tea drinking, way back in 9 B.C.

The temple and grounds are open to visitors Tue-Sun 9am-5pm.
