La Boite Roundhouse Theatre

Kelvin Grove

The brilliant indie theatre company La Boite has been a stalwart of the Brisbane dramatic scene since its beginnings as the Brisbane Repertory Theatre in 1925.

Bringing fresh contemporary and cutting edge theatre to its audiences, often in collaboration with other companies such as the STC, its intimate 400 seat venue The Roundhouse is the best place in town to catch Australian productions.

The Roundhouse itself is Australia’s only purpose-built theatre-in-the-round, having replaced the old La Boite venue in Petrie Terrace from where La Boite operated between 1972 and 2004.

Current artistic director David Berthold brings his vast experience and acumen both internationally and closer to home most recently as Sydney’s Griffin Theatre to La Boite’s productions.

In the January school holidays La Boite features excellent touring children’s shows, the most recent having been The Gruffalo’s Child.
