Tradecoast Central Heritage Park

Brisbane

Updated: Nov 18, 2018

Tradecoast Central Heritage Park combines three historic sites in one, following the unique history of Eagle Farm from a convict women's prison (1829-38) to its pivotal role in the war effort and eventually as Brisbane's former international airport.

This heritage site features an educational walking trail with life size replicas, and the interpretive centre which is filled with relevant artefacts such as convict leg irons, hand written log books and original telegrams. It is inspiring to visit the exact site where these snapshots of Brisbane's history have been preserved.

Anyone interested in top secret intelligence work will be fascinated by a visit to Hangar No.7, where officers uncovered the mystery behind the Japanese Zero fighter planes and essentially regained power over the Pacific during World War II.

Tradecoast Central Heritage Park is also home to the Allison Engine Testing Stands (1942-3) which represent Brisbane's role in servicing the high powered Allison V-12 engines - the mainstay of the Allied Air Forces during World War II.
