Cloudland

Brisbane

Last updated: Nov 18, 2018

Brisbane’s beloved iconic ballroom Cloudland, which once graced a hilltop of Bowen Hills with a lit-up arch that at night could be seen across Brisbane, has been brought back to virtual life.

For the first time since its demolition in the early hours of November 7th, 1982, it’s possible to revisit the iconic Brisbane landmark as it was in its glory days.

Thanks to the painstaking work of Brisbane management consultant Magnus Eriksson and Kyle Fysh, you can once again enter through the hallowed archway and take in the stunning interior via his digital installation, via his fascinating website House Histories.

In the recreation, the spring timber floors of the early 1950s have been polished up, the interior plasterwork restored to crisp and white, with the mezzanine as good as new and the elegant Tristram's soft drink bar restored.

The doomed ballroom, which started life as Luna Park, complete a with rollercoaster that was never used, went on to host the who’s who of entertainment (Buddy Holly, Bee Gees, AC/DC, The Saints, The Clash, Midnight Oil and Cold Chisel to name a few) and even royalty (with visits from Princess Alexandra and the Queen) – more here.
