The Rose & Crown
South Brisbane
The Rose & Crown brings a cool London pub vibe to a landmark heritage-listed Queenslander, tucked between the towers of Southpoint and Emporium Hotel at South Brisbane.
Inspired by the UK gastropub scene (where the owner has worked for 23 years), The Rose & Crown is the perfect spot to get a taste of London without leaving Brisbane.
The iconic 19th century building, with its lace iron balconies. ornate fretwork, fireplaces, French doors and original staircase, was originally a grand residence, then the Spaghetti House and most recently Little Big House, before its latest incarnation as a London-style pub.
Patrons can take a seat on the lower level beer garden terrace, upper level balcony, bar or any one of the cosy dining rooms and parlours and partake in delicious gastro pub fare and a pint of British ale (traditionally served from the beer engine or pump), cocktails and wine.
The food menu, which rotates regularly, is a blend of traditional British fare, using fresh seasonal produce, with a creative twist.
All day bar snacks (which can also be a starter) include the likes of Scotch egg with mustard mayo; cocktail sausages with honey mustard; pork sausage roll; oysters; padron peppers; or charcuterie or mezze boards for two.
For starters, choices include potted mud crab with lemon butter, apple and toast; heirloom tomato and burrata panzenalla; spicy cucumber gazpacho with croutons; or grilled tomato & sardine tart.
Mains range from the more traditional - beer battered mahi mahi with chips & aioli; or braised steak and ale pie with mash and roasted vegetables; to the likes of dry aged Brooklyn Valley bavette steak with café de Paris butter, chimichurri, watercress and chips; or eggplant and miso parmigiana with pumpkin and fermented chilli sauce.
Meanwhile puddings include treacle tart with native honey sorbet; sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice-cream; rhubarb and apple mess with ginger cream. or selection of cheese with crackers and apple chutney.
