The Record Exchange
Cbd
Hidden away in a vast dimly lit room, upstairs in an Adelaide St building is the Record Exchange, with the largest back-from-the-grave collection of vinyl records in the Southern Hemisphere.
Grunge aside, it’s the ideal place to get lost for hours here reliving days of youth and rediscovering all those 45’s and albums long given up for dead. And those with offbeat tastes will revel in the off the shelves museum of rare records numbering in the 60 thousands.
But it’s not just about records – flip through the catalogues of old pop posters just as they appeared in Chandlers alongside the albums and 4IP charts in the ‘70’s. Don’t have a turntable to play that dug up fave album? Pick up a newly minted record player imported from the States. Then buy a rockers T-shirt, adorn it with original punk badges and pull on the glam rock or bovver boy boots that are also for sale down one end.
To complete the memorabilia trip there are cassettes, videos and music biographies of the greatest and forgotten rockers.
