Sandgate Post Office Hotel

Sandgate

Updated: Jul 26, 2024

An iconic bayside landmark, the Sandgate Post Office, which was originally built in 1887 as the third post office in Queensland, has been given a new lease of life as the Sandgate Post Office Hotel.

The grand heritage-listed hotel overlooking the historic town square features a stylish and elegant gastro-pub restaurant called 'The Dining Room', a vibrant high-ceilinged Main Bar, and casual al fresco dining areas that are perfect for soaking up the sun.

This venue is quintessentially Sandgate, with a unique charm that appeals to visitors and locals alike. With its historic architecture and contemporary amenities, it's a must-visit destination for those seeking a memorable dining experience.

In keeping with its past, the Sandgate Post Office Hotel offers a one-of-a-kind experience for whiskey enthusiasts, with its whiskey vault and Post Boxes, where VIP customers can store their prized collections.

The Dining Room, known for its sophisticated atmosphere and delectable menu, has a moody interior that overlooks the Moreton Bay figs of Sandgate’s Rainbow Street. Offering full table service with intimate booths and plush surrounds, it’s the perfect space for special occasions or a night out with friends.

The Main Bar area is a vibrant gathering place, with a mix of alfresco footpath dining, an open-air deck and cosy enclaves inside. Here's the place to enjoy a selection of 12 draught beers, classic pub fare and live music every weekend.

At the heart of kitchen's offerings are melt-in-the-mouth rotisserie meats made with fresh local Australian produce, complemented by an extensive selection of wines, beers, and cocktails, including a range of non-alcoholic options.

Guests can indulge in delectable slow-cooked brisket, rolled lamb forequarter, porchetta, and beer-marinated chicken sourced from the Glasshouse Mountains or the signature dish of sandcrab lasagne, along with a thoughtfully curated assortment of gastro-pub fare.

As well as the main dining areas and bar, the Sandgate Post Office Hotel has five unique spaces perfect for intimate gatherings and events up to 150 guests.

The second floor Telegraph Room, which once served as telegraph offices and accommodation for the Postmaster, has been transformed into a bright and airy event space with 3 rooms and screens, 2 balconies, private lift and bar, making it an ideal location for weddings, Christmas parties, and other gatherings.

With its vintage post office box-styled spirit lockers, The Whiskey Vault is also a signature events space - an exclusive destination for high-quality dining experiences, offering everything from wine or spirit dinners to intimate private dining for up to 10 guests with customised menus.

Meanwhile The Garden, The Deck and the Cocktail Lounge are ideal for casual-style events like birthdays, parties and celebrations from 18-50 guests.

Located on the corner of Bowser Parade and Rainbow Street and across the road from the Sandgate rail station, The Sandgate Post Office Hotel is set to once again be a landmark for the Sandgate community.

Good to know - There is live entertainment Fri/Sat nights from 5.30pm and Jazz Sundays from 2.30pm

Need to know - The alfresco areas are dog friendly.
