Milton
Mono Dining is a slick contemporary Japanese kitchen and bar tucked away just off Milton's Park Road, in the base of The Milton.
From the owners of Moga (previously in Rosalie Village) and Mobo Restaurant (Kangaroo Point), Mono Dining offers a fresh and delicious interpretation of traditional Japanese dishes.
The funky interior features an open kitchen, with one wall adorned with Japanese pictures and the other traditional lanterns and here diners can take a seat at the bar or in one of the stylish booths. Otherwise there are dining tables on the covered terrace outside.
On the menu is a small choice of sashimi, including the signature Kingfish Sashimi and Wagyu Tataki; and a selection of Signature Ngiri Sushi such as Wagyu Melt (a must-try), Flowery Salmon, Crispy Chicken Avo Ngiri; and Hokkaido Scallop Aburi.
Bao buns are also highly recommended, with fillings of teriyaki pork belly. crispy chicken or tempura soft shell crab; while more-ish small bites include pan fried gyoza and chicken katsu.
Another house signature is their fancy sushi rolls (Firework, Spider, Mono or Crispy Salmon); and from the grill there's a choice of grillled salmon or chicken yakitori skewers.
For Mains, choices include Grilled Eggplant (scorched eggplant, shallots, dengaku miso sauce); Volcano Salmon Don (flamed salmon on top of seasoned sushi rice, avo slices, runny egg on top, mayo and house teriyaki sauce, tobiko and shallots); Chicken Katsu with Japanese Curry; and melt-in-the-mouth Glazed Teriyaki Pork Belly.
Otherwise there's the option of Sukiyaki (Japanese Hot Pot) and Tempura (crispy prawn, vegetable or soft shell crab); and, for dessert, Tempura ice-cream. Mono Dining also offers an excellent kids menu of traditional sushi.
On the drinks list there's sake cocktails such as Plum Martini and Hokkaido Island Iced tea; Japanese beer (Suntory premium malt, Asahi Suber Dry & krin Ichiban) on tap; Japanese draught beers (Hitachino Nest and Echigo Beer); Roku Craft Gin and Toki Whiskey, sake and a selection of boutique Australian wines.
Good to know - There's also a good selection of lunch specials including bento boxes, don and bao buns.
Need to know - There is a limited amount of metered street parking nearby and Milton Railway Station is a 3-minute walk away.
