Victoria Park's Grand New Parklands
Brisbane’s biggest new park in 50 years, Victoria Park is now under construction, with the transformation of the ex-golf course into a massive 45 hectare green public parkland, now open for picnics with a view, walks and space for kids to kick a ball or run around.
More than 51,000 ideas were put forward when Brisbane residents were consulted on the Victoria Park Vision, including an Adventurescape Playground, Parkway Loop, Spring Hill Common and Urban Pump Track.
The Urban Pump Track will offer a space for younger children to practice and expand on their riding skills, along with a multi-use space with skateable elements, picnic shelter and seating, bike racks and a 16-bay car park.
A two-kilometre “Parkway Loop” boulevard, the first stage of 18 kilometres of trails and bikeways to be added to the parkland, will link the existing land bridge over the Inner City Bypass and the Brisbane Metro and busway station.
An all-ages, all-abilities “Adventurescape” playground will incorporate natural elements like sticks, vegetation and rocks for nature play.
Also in the plan are wetlands and waterholes, a treehouse with city views, dog park, public art and Spring Hill Common - a relaxed parkland setting with tiered stepped seating and a flat outdoor space for activities, community gatherings and picnicking.
Good to know - The current Victoria Park function centre, Bistro, driving range and putt-putt course are remaining due to their popularity.
Need to know - Victoria Park will be redeveloped in stages over the next few years, with each new section opened to the public upon completion.
