Rocks Riverside Promenade

Jindalee

Updated: Sep 04, 2019

Starting adjacent to the Centenary Highway bridge at Amazons Place, this delightfully scenic walking track of about 6km return and cycle path heads east away from the highway, bordered by towering gums and winding its way across shady meadows until eventually it joins up with the spectacular Rocks Riverside Park.

Studded along the way there are benches and several picnic shelters as well as a playground featuring a flying fox. Meander off the track to the river and the odd industrial ruin from the coral crushing days lies decaying on its edge – rusted drums, crumbled jetties and the remnants of a loading hoist, while halfway along is an iron and concrete sculpture commemorating the history of the area.

At low tide it’s possible to spot some of the rocks the park and suburb are named after, which were once used as a river crossing by the Aborigines who inhabited the area.

With only some gentle hills and wide paved paths (except for about a hundred metres of unsealed gravel) it is suitable for most ages whether on wheels or on foot.

Once inside the River Rocks Park, the track loops around past the many features back to the river front for the return.

Walkers seeking something more aerobically challenging can take the crushed coral Zig Zag path up the hill for views of the area.

On foot, this takes approximately one and a half to two hours return and with the Zig Zag track add another half hour.

By bike, this is approximately an hour’s return ride if not stopping.
