Wynnum to Manly

Walk Or Cycle

This scenic seafront walk or ride of around 10km return packs a lot of variety into its length, from the pristine waters of Oyster Point at the start to the epic seafront water park, jetty and white sandy beach at Wynnum, to the vast marina of yachts that defines Manly.

The first section of the walk passes by the seaside esplanade before, in about 600m, you'll reach Wynnum's tiny white sand swimming beach, Pandanus Beach.

Pandanus Beach is part of Wynnum's main seafront attractions, which include the fantastic water park with its squirting sea mammals and aquativity and the massive Depression era tidal swimming pool.

There's also a kids playground, bathing pavilion and picnic and BBQ facilities, and just beyond Pandanus Beach is Wynnum's jetty, which is worth taking a stroll along, with views to Manly and the islands across the water.

From the jetty continue on, passing the fantastic George Clayton park on the right, which is also known as the 'lighthouse park' because of the 4m-high lighthouse-like tower in the playground and Bandstand Park due to the replica ornate bandstand at the southern end.

From here there's a slight grassy promontary with a war memorial, which marks the border of Wynnum and Manly and from there the last bay leads around to Manly's Little Bayside Park, jetty and Marina.

Here, you'll find overwater cafe/bar Tide on the Jetty and, further on in East Coast Marina, Cafe La Mer overlooking the yachts and the water, both of them a top spot for a bite to eat and a coffee.

Manly-Lota - Walkers and cyclists not down to their reserve tank of energy can continue a short distance past the marina along the roadside to Lota, which has a sleepy fisherman’s village charm partly due to the tiny fibro sea cottages that permeate the few streets, dwarfed by fig trees and half overgrown with bougainvillea.

Lota’s grassy seafront reserve is overlooked by the sole fish’n’chip shop Barts Place and has an extra couple of kilometres return of pathway and some conceptual sculptures on its highest place, Fig Tree Pt.

Or alternatively you can start this walk up at Elanora Park on the north side of Wynnum and take a stroll through the ethereal Wynnum Mangrove Walk. Then cross the park and pick up the path along the sea front, crossing Fox Bridge to reach Oyster Point where this walk starts. Both of these additions would add approx one hour return to the walk.

Good to know - Most of the paths on the Wynnum-Manly foreshore is split for pedestrians and cyclists.

*Train travellers will need to leave Wynnum Station via Thorne St, turn left onto Tingal Rd - Wynnum’s oldest road - and then right onto Wilde Street. Follow this to the end, turn right and cross Fox Bridge which dates from 1921 and to the sharp left is Waterloo Esplanade.
