Old Quarry

Daisy Hill

Updated: Jun 27, 2025

The Old Quarry in Daisy Hill is a hidden oasis, surrounded by a myriad of walking trails and mountain bike tracks, in Neville Lawrie Reserve adjoining Daisy Hill Regional Park.

This idyllic water hole is reached by beautiful bush walk, starting from the upper day use area at Daisy Hill Regional Park. From the car par, take the narrow, bitumen path to the right and continue until the path widens and turns to dirt.  This shared trail (walk, mountain bike or horsehide) is known as the Stringybark trail.

Stroll through tall, eucalypt forest – dominated by spotted gum, grey gum, ironbark, tallowwood and stringybark trees - until the track connects with Buhot Creek circuit.  Continue along Buhot Creek circuit until you reach the gate to neighbouring Neville Lawrie Reserve.  It’s only another 340 metres from the gate to the Old Quarry.

Permanently filled with water, this water lily fringed lake is popular with dog owners who take their four-legged friends here for a swim. There’s a bench overlooking the quarry where visitors can take time out, enjoy the lovely views and perhaps, a picnic.

The trek to the Old Quarry is nearly 3 kilometres and should take between 1 to 1.5 hours return trip. Classified as Class 3, there are some short, steep hills. Wear suitable shoes and take water. Dogs must be kept on leash.

Need to know – It is easy to get lost in Daisy Hill Regional Park, the trails are not always clearly marked.  Just enjoy the serenity and persevere.  When you do find the quarry, you will be rewarded.

*Acess is via Daisy Hill Regional Park, which is at the end of Daisy Hill Rd, Daisy Hill.
