Bulimba Riverside Park
Bulimba
With cross-river views to Teneriffe, this wide open green space with playground, dog offleash area and BBQs is connected to Oxford St by a riverfront walk and cycle path.
The picnic tables and shiny new gas BBQs lining the foreshore make a splendid place to watch the sun go down over the old woolstores skyline while behind there is plenty of open space to run around and kick a ball.
Meantime the industrial-themed playground is multi-age and sand-based with everything from an elaborate toddler fort, tyre swing and hurdy gurdy to a large slippery dip tower.
While the dog offleash compound is small, sparse and treeless its location adjacent to the kids play area and barbecues somewhat compensate for these shortcomings.
History buffs may be interested to know that the steel girder MR Hornibrook memorial at the Love St entrance pays homage to the founder of the MR Hornibrook Yard that once inhabited the site. In 1912 Manuel Hornibrook established the construction company that became a Queensland giant, being responsible for the Story Bridge, William Jolly Bridge, Hornibrook Highway (the largest span bridge of its time) and many of the University of Queensland buildings
