Boondall Wetlands

Bikeway

Updated: Sep 27, 2025

This spectacular ride through Boondall Wetlands is a 7-8km foray into the terrestrial world of marshland, casuarina woodlands, mangrove grottoes, waterholes and paperbark forests.

It’s suitable for most ages – no lycra required - although there are a few narrow bridges and easy inclines to negotiate.

If coming by car, park up at Nudgee Beach and cycle back along Nudgee Rd, then take the cycle path to the right just before the Nudgee Transfer Station, which leads into the Wetlands.

For train travellers, this ride is reversed - disembark at Boondall Station and take the cycle path to the right on the Entertainment Centre side – this leads via a roundabout under the Gateway Motorway and re-emerges at the entrance to the Wetlands on the other side. From here, the bike track leads sharply off to the right and into the wetlands towards Nudgee Beach. Upon emerging at Nudgee Rd, there is the option of not returning but heading onwards, turning to the right and crossing the road where further along the path joins up with the 12 km bike track through a marshy nether land via Kedron Brook to Toombul Station.

The ride is best done at a leisurely pace, taking time to stop and observe bird habitats, the changing landscape, and the odd bay vista from clearings. Before or after there are picnic facilities on the beachfront park within the sleepy hamlet of Nudgee Beach and a solo casual café Pam's Cafe 88 run by a Vietnamese couple where both sweet’n’sour pork and old-fashioned hamburgers are on the menu.
