Step into a world of sugar plums, rat kings, and sparkling crystals as Queensland Ballet returns with its favourite festive tradition - The Nutcracker, at Lyric Theatre, QPAC from December 5 to 13.

For its thirteenth and final season choreographed by former director of Houston Ballet, Ben Stevenson, OBE, this magical classic is sure to enchant audiences of all ages.

Set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score, performances will feature live accompaniment by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by renowned ballet maestro Nigel Gaynor.

Based on German author E. T. A. Hoffmann’s timeless tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, this 130-year-old story begins in the home of the Stahlbaums, who are hosting a festive Christmas Eve party.

Their daughter, Clara, receives a magical nutcracker doll from her mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer. That night, in her dreams, the world around her transforms - furniture grows, toys come to life, and the nutcracker becomes a handsome prince.

After a dramatic battle with the Rat King, the Prince whisks Clara away on a wondrous journey through the glittering Land of Snow and into the dazzling Kingdom of the Sweets.

This hugely popular ballet has been captivating audiences across the globe for more than 120 years. Don’t miss Queensland Ballet’s most cherished festive tradition!
