Two renowned composers, Profokiev and Shostakovich grapple with the terror and turmoil of the 20th century in Queensland Symphony Orchestra's performance of Shostakovich Ten at Concert Hall, QPAC on September 19 & 20.

Shostakovich Ten, Queensland Symphony Orchestra

Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.3 is a flurry of virtuosity, under the command of Alexander Gavrylyuk, with dizzying, surreal melodies portraying a sense of sarcastic delight in a work that’s sometimes mischievous, sometimes tender, but always electrifying.

Shostakovich’s harrowing Symphony No.10 is a tour-de-force of orchestral power, which claws its way from despair to hopeful triumph.

Taking it to the next level, the performance will be accompanied by an on-screen showing of South African artist, William Kentridge’s film Oh To Believe In Another World.
