Northey St Farm
Walk Or Cycle
This 4km return creek side jaunt follows a shady flat paved path to Northey St Farm, past vast expanses of playing fields and a couple of playgrounds then plunges briefly into a rainforest grove housing sculptures and art pieces as the Bowen Bridge Heritage Trail before arriving at the Northey St City Farm. On Sunday mornings the farm springs to life with visitors to the organic markets.
1. If arriving by one of the many buses that frequent Enoggera Rd, alight at the nearest stop to Bishop St and head down to its very end where the trail begins via a bridge across Enoggera Creek. If arriving by car, go to the dead end of Bishop St and park near the reserve or an alternative is nearby Rees St from where a path leads through to the bridge.
2. Take the bridge across mangrove lined Enoggera Creek and turn right. Follow this path until it reaches the Bowen Bridge Heritage Trail and beyond here and across the road is the farm which is abuzz on Sunday mornings from 6am-11am when the markets are open. At that time the in-house Chai Cafe opens for breakfast, the clearings of rustic play equipment are over run with children and strewn logs are occupied by chai and coffee drinkers.
During the week activities are limited to checking out the vegetable and bush tucker gardens, the play equipment and the resident chickens.
3. After the farm visit return via the same trail to the start.
Cyclists in need of further aerobic satisfaction can head across Enoggera Rd and take Praed St to join up with the Red Hill Newmarket Walk Ride path.
