Hive is a unique and funky warehouse cafe, bar and eatery tucked away in a Newstead side street and open for breakfast through to evening drinks and tapas-style dishes.

The lamp and string of twinkling lights, leather couch and cartwheel and servery window out front give little clue to the quirky rabbit warren of spaces inside, which are festooned with greenery, faux white cherry blossom tree, barrels, Chesterfield couches, picnic tables and astroturf.

And that's not all - perched up high on one of the walls are two vintage motorbikes (from one of the owner's collection) and in the centre is a farm tractor, providing a partition between seating areas.

Serving breakfast from 6.30-11.30am, on the menu there's the likes of buttermilk and ricotta hotcakes; tofu chilli scramble; mixed wild mushroom and Maleny goats cheese omelette; and house-made granola parfait with yoghurt and mixed berry compote.

From 11.30am until close, an impressive range of tapas-style share plates are available, including coconut-crusted Thai fish cakes; free range chicken wings (buffalo or lemon pepper); arancini; house-made vegetarian dumplings; free-range chicken soft shell tacos; and 24 hour, twice-cokked Bourbon pork ribs.

There's also cajun salmon bites with quinoa seed salad; Thai style king prawns with mango & chilloi salsa; and Mexican roasted corn with chilli butter and chipotle aioli.

There's also a small selection of local craft beers and wines by the bottle or the glass as well as mocktails, house pour spirits, juices and coffee.

Hive can also do picnic boxes for two to take away, featuring locally sourced farm fresh cheese, lavish, warm olives, salmi, quince paste, prosciutto, balsamic tomato and duck rillette, and including a complimentary bottle of local wine

Good to know - There is a narrow 'pooch alley' along one side of Hive, with  doggie hitching stations and water bowls.

Need to know - A limited amount of  metered street parking is available in the streets nearby.
