Uncle Don

South Brisbane

Uncle Don West End is a dedicated donburi (Japanese Rice bowl) restaurant, serving  up more that 20 variations of the delicious dish in its slick contemporary South Brisbane home.

A sibling for Uncle Don in Rosalie, which was Brisbane's first donburi outlet, this is their second restaurant, with a third on the cards to open in Woolloongabba in 2024.

Diners can take a seat in the cool spacious aircon interior or on the deck overlooking Melbourne St, which Uncle Don shares with next door neighbour Taro's Ramen.

The comprehensive menu includes a range of other modern Japanese dishes for starters, including parmesan karaage chicken, crispy eggplant chip tower, baked cauliflower miso cream, pork gyoza and Uncle's Pot Pie (braised miso pork, chilli oil, sansho, egg yolk and chives).

The rest of the menu is devoted to all types of don - seafood (including salmon sashimi, tenkasu baked salmon & grilled unagi); chicken (including karaage & egg, chicken katsu & grilled duck); beef (Wagyu steak or sweet soy marinated beef); and pork( Including braised red miso, crispy or spicy pork).

Other types of don include vegetable (grilled eggplant or shiitake mushroom or fried tofu); curry (scrambled egg, karaage chicken, grilled vege or chicken katsu) and Keto don (including mushroom, salmon, beef or grilled chicken).

Drinks-wise, there's Japanese cocktails, beers (on tap & bottled), sake and Japanese fruit wine as well as a small selection of Australian wines. There are also hot teas and Uncle Don's specialty teas (which can be matched to the don dish).

Good to know - The seats outside on the deck are dog-friendly.

Need to know - Orders are placed via an app on your phone at the table, or at the counter.
