Spring Hill
Komeyui is a stunning, minimalist chic Japanese restaurant in Spring Hill, offering a handcrafted menu and sensory dining experience like its renowned Melbourne sibling.
Tucked away in the base of a refurbished white building, the entrance to the spacious light-filled restaurant is through a sliding glass door, which is hidden to one side behind dark wood panelling.
The interior of the restaurant is split level, with a bar and sushi bar running right along one side, a kitchen at the rear and well-spaced dining tables throughout, while a couple of private dining rooms can be found behind traditional curtains.
Diners can choose from a la carte, omakese (chef's tasting menu) or the signature 5-course menu. House specialty is sushi (thin, medium or thick rolls) which is the best you'll find in Brisbane and a must try - made from top quality carefully ingredients and prepared freshly upon order at the sushi bar.
Also on the a la carte menu are sashimi (which also comes as a mixed assortment with sushi, and small appetisers such as Oyster Boat (fresh oyster, sweet prawn, sea urchin & beluga caviar) and Nori Crunch (spicy tuna or eel & mascarpone on fried seaweed cracker).
Little dishes include fried chicken karaage; agedashi tofu; chawanmushi (steamed egg custard); pork gyoza and Wagyu tataki (seared beef, leek, potato, soy, Hollandaise sauce).
For mains there is a choice of Josper Charcoal Oven Steak (including Australian wagyu sirloin or MB4 striploin); Tasmanian salmon terikaki; Tempura assortment; Miso Black Cod 'Saikyo-yaki' (Jasper oven-grilled black cod marinated in Kyoto miso for 3 days); and Braised Black Pork Belly 'Kakuni'.
And for dessert there is matcha ice-cream (with fresh fruit); Koikawa sake creme brulee or Sata-Andagi (Okinawa-style cookie doughnut with ice-cream and fresh fruit.
At lunchtime the house special is the Komeyui Shokado Bento Box, with sushi (3pcs), sashimi, tempura, miso soup and a choice of grilled salmon, Southern Range MB4+ striploin or black cod.
On the drinks menu are boutique cocktails such as Fruit fusion bubble, Sake Martini, and Shochu or Whisky Highball and Japanese beers (Suntory Premium Malt or Yoyogi Pale Ale. There's also a range of sake (including premium aged), roku gin and other small batch spirits while the wine list features a curated selection of Australian and European wines.
Need to know - There is metred onstreet parking available nearby, which is free after 5.30pm Monday-Friday.
