Shimo Yakiniku is a traditional Japanese BBQ restaurant found tucked away down a lane in the Savoir Faire precinct in Milton's Park Road.

Occupying the old Embers Steakhouse spot, Shimo Yakiniku features cosy curtained booths, tiled floors, paper lanterns and pale wooden dining tables and chairs, with a built-in Japanese BBQ at all tables.

With a menu featuring and based upon the finest cuts of locally-sourced wagyu, diners can choose from Omakase (chef's selection  set menu) or a la carte.

For newcomers to Japanese BBQ, the Omakase (for 2-4 diners) is recommended, and the waiters are there to advise and, if necessary, assist with the cooking of the meat.

The Omakase menu starts with appetisers such as octopus karaage, assorted homemade kimchi and fresh cabbage salad with salt sesame dressing.

For the main (Yakiniku BBQ) course diners are given the chef's daily best selection of 4 Wagyu cuts ( Wagyu flank, inside skirt, oyster blade & Karubi steak) and delectable Kurobuta pork belly (Berkshire pork with miso marinade), with sides of Koshihikari Japanese rice, Onsen egg (65℃ soft poached egg) and oxtail soup.

And for those who prefer to choose their own dishes, the a la carte menu offer entrees like chicken or octopus karaage, Takoyaki or Sansho pepper chicken wings, while a small selection of raw dishes includes Shimo oysters, salmon & kingfish carpaccio, sashimi or seared beef tataki.

The main Yakiniku menu includes a premium Wagyu (M9+) platter or standard Wagyu platters (M7-9+) for 2, 3-4 or 4-6 diners, with the beef choices including ribeye cap, Wagyu tri tip, oyster blade or rib finger. Otherwise there's jumbo prawns, Hokkaido scallops, Berkshire pork jowl or belly; chicken thigh, Wagyu ox tongue and vegetable or mushroom platters.

And for dessert there's a choice between authentic Japanese Matcha ice-cream in a waffle cone or Yuzu sorbet with mixed berry sauce.

On the drinks menu you'll find Japanese beer (Suntory, Asahi Yebisu, YOYOKI & Sapporo); sakes ranging from Shimo House Sake to Dassai 23 Junmai Daiinjo; Japanese liquors (citrus, white peach or plum); cocktails including Momo Martini, Shiso Southside & Ume Negroni; Roku or Nikka gin and a handful of Japanese whiskeys.

There's also a concise menu of Australian and NZ wines by the bottle or glass & Veuve Clicquot, as well as soft drinks including Japanese lemonade as well as Iced green tea and Sencha Premium green tea.

Need to know - There is free underground parking after 4pm for Savoir Faire customers. Take the driveway adjacent to Miss Chilli Hotpot and there is a lift from the car park back to street level.
