Kangaroo Point

Mobo is a contemporary Japanese restaurant and tapas bar tucked away under a boutique apartment hotel in a side street of Kangaroo Point.

The spacious open-sided restaurant is festooned with Japanese lanterns and features myriad dining nooks, ideal for everything from intimate dates to groups.

The a la carte menu is inspired by Izakaya (Japanese pub) with a selection of small share-style dishes (tapas, Japanese style) designed to be enjoyed with sake, beer, wine and cocktails.

Small bites to start include gyoza, miso soup, chicken karaage and bao buns (tempura softshell crab, teriyaki pork belly or crispy chicken) and tradiontal izakaya style skewers (chicken yakitori or grilled salmon).

From the delectable sushi and sashimi menu there's a choice of small, large or special kingfish sashimi and Mobo's heavenly signature sushi rolls (try the Mobo - flamed salmon with Hokkaido scallops, mayonnaise, cucumber, grilled teriyaki and fried shallots or Spider Maki - tempura fried soft shell crab, julienned cucumber, spiced mayonnaise, topped with tobiko).

Also highly recommended are the Signature Ngiri such as the Flowery Salmon - fresh salmon, scallop, shallots, tobiko, teriyaki flamed and adorned with edible flowers and the Wagyu Melt - flamed wagyu with teriyaki glaze.

Other delicious options include Yaki (grilled, seared or fried), such as Glazed Teriyaki Pork Belly; Chicken Katsu with Japanese Curry; Grilled Eggplant or the highly recommended Wagyu Strip Loin (grilled strips of striploin MB6+ grade wagyu served with asparagus, zucchini and apple and garlic sauce).

A traditional dish suitable for 2-3 people is the Sukiyaki Hotpot (traditional Japanese hotpot served with thin sliced wagyu beef and variety of vegetables cooked in chef’s secret Sukiyaki broth), and lastly there is a choice of vegetable or prawn tempura.

Drinks-wise, Mobo offers a concise selection of Australian wine, Japanese beers (Sapporo, Kirin Ichiban, Asahi, and Yebbisu); sake, plum wine and sake cocktails (Plum Martini, Caipi Sake Spritz and Hokkaido Iced Tea.
