Saccharomyces Beer Cafe
South Brisbane
Saccharomyces Beer Café is a cool designer beer hall tucked away in Fish Lane, South Brisbane, serving craft beers and eats until midnight.
Combining the lively communal vibe of the traditional beer hall with sleek contemporary locally crafted décor, Saccharomyces Beer Café is a great place to stop by for a bite to eat and to sink a few beers with friends.

Whilst delicious eats are part of the scene here, first and foremost it’s about the beer, which Saccharomyces has carefully sourced from near and far, both locally and internationally. Local beers include drops from Newstead Brewing Co, Fortitude Brewing and Green Beacon Brewing Co and from overseas, in keeping with the beer hall theme, there’s an emphasis on old European styles such as brown ales, sours and Belgian beers, with rarities such as handcrafted beer from Norway (Nogne O) and Denmarks ‘gypsy’ microbrewery Mikkeller. Meanwhile ten beers (Including IPA and lager) are on tap at any given time and change regularly.

To accompany the beers (and upcoming wines*), a range of share style dishes are available that are perfectly managed standing up or perched on a stool with beer in hand.

Small Plates include Oven-baked Chicken Wings, Smoked Cheddar Mac & Cheese and Potato Roti with dry cured bacon and quail egg, or there’s house Sliders including Indonesian Beef, Haloumi and Cajun Chicken with a side of housemade pickle, Cheese burgers and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches such as Triple Cheese (gouda, cheddar and Swiss) or Cheddar, Apple and Dry Cured Bacon.

Need to know – You’ll find Saccharomyces Beer Café on the section of Fish lane between Hope and Merivale St, just a block from Maker bar and Julius Pizzeria. A cracking carefully curated wine list with plenty of local varieties from Stanthorpe and Tenterfield is also available.
