Uncle Wang
Petrie Terrace
Uncle Wang is a chic contemporary Chinese restaurant and bar nestled within Petrie Terrace's stunning heritage-listed The Barracks.
Tucked away at the end of the covered laneway that runs alongside the main dining precinct, Uncle Wang features an elegant high-ceilinged dining room with long marble bar, banquette along one wall, tessellated tiled floor and adorned with stunning Asian artworks and colourful parasols.
Dishing up food to match the decor, Uncle Wang's entrees include the highly recommended Wang prawn toast, pancake with mushroom mince and black garlic, Hokkaido scallop marinated in soy sauce and must-try Sichuan Pork Bakkwa (honey glazed house baked Chinese jerky with chilli pickle).
For a fresh light palate cleanser try the broccoli or Xinlimei salad (watermelon radish with fragrant dressing) and not to be missed are the dumplings (pork & wombok or spinach mushroom) or Xiao Long Bao (steamed handmade juicy pork dumplings).
Mains are divided into Meat, Seafood or Vegetables/Vegan, with Meat recommendations including Smoked Crispy Skin Duck, Blackbean Beef Fillet Mignon, Chasiu Pork Ribs (sticky pork ribs with Chilli plum jam) or Mala Chicken (crispy fried chicken with fermented green chilli and fragrant sauce).
Seafood dishes include Namjin calamari and Chilli ginger prawn whilst vegetarian choices include black garlic cauliflower with black garlic sauce; Wang's Special Kungpao potatoes and Smoky Hongyou eggplant.
There's also a small selection of rice and noodle dishes, including stir fried duck noodle and the must try Wang's Fried Rice (duck, greens, egg, bakkwa fried rice) or Kid Noodle (lightly soy seasoned flat noodle).
Good to know - There are chef's banquets for 4 people or more that are excellent value, starting from $35pp as well as great lunchtime specials.
Need to know - The outdoor seating area is dog friendly. Undercover secure parking is available at The Barracks, with 2 hours free.
