TakashiYa
South Brisbane
TakishiYa is a splendid and exclusive Japanese omakase, whiskey and sake bar tucked away under the Emporium Hotel in South Brisbane.
Entry takes you into the stunning bar area which is festooned with hanging cherry blossoms, Japanese lanterns and lights inside sake bottles, walled off to one side by a glass window of bamboo.
Here you can partake in a range of premium Japanese whiskeys, sakes and spirits as well as Penfolds Grange and even a $12000 bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac. You can also dine a la carte from a casual (but high end) menu which includes a sample of the omakase dishes.
Those booked in for the high end Omakase (chef's selection) dining experience are ushered behind a velvet curtain by a kimonon-d waitress to the pocket-sized Omakase room, which seats a maximmum of 12. Here you'll enjoy an exquisite culinary journey of dishes prepared and chosen by chef Takashi Nami.
Examples of Omakase experience dishes (which are also available in the bar a la carte) include Kagoshima A5 Wagyu and Foie Gras Aburi Ngiri, Glacier 51 Toothfish Saikyo Yaki or Takashiya Oyter Shooter.
The rest of the A La Carte menu includes Sashimi (Aged Tasmanian, Fish of the Day, Blue Fin Tuna or Negitoro Cone) and the delicious Takahiya Premium Sandwich (Glacier 51 Toothfish or Wagyu Tenderloin Katso Sando).
There's also a choice of Rice & Udon Dishes, including Roasted Duck and Foie Gras Fried Rice or Kaisan Don (Fish of the Day, Blue Fin Tuna, Uni and Ikira) as well as a Seared Aged Duck Breast Salad.
Otherwise, a selection of Vegetable dishes includes Black Miso Gratin Eggplant, Karaage Cauliflower with Garlic Chips; Char-grilled Broccolini with Truffle Ponzu or Fried Sweet Corn with Yuzu Aioli.
From the drinks menu you can indulge in a range of premium sakes (including Ginjo, Daiginjo, Junmai and Juyondai); Suntory and Nikka spirits, Japanese draught beer (Suntory Premium Malt) and bottled beers (Asahi Super Dry/Black, Sapporor and Yebisu Premium). There's also a small selection of wines, ranging up to Penfolds Grange and Dom Perignon Brut champagne.
Need to know - Plates served in the bar are small and exquisite, with a price to reflect the quality - this is not the place for a big feed. The entrance to TakishiYa is tucked away on the left hand corner of the Emporium Hotel on Grey St, right next door to South Point.
