Colle Rosso

Red Hill

Updated: Jul 15, 2024

UPDATE July 2024:  Colle Rosso has closed.

Rome meets Sardinia in Colle Rosso, the classic homey Italian trattoria everyone wishes they had in their neighbourhood.

And while it may be in a bit of a Red Hill outpost this warm wooden and red-hued space draws locals-in-the-know in for fabulous authentic pizzas, the best of traditional pasta, regional dishes made from fresh and locally sourced produce and the warmest of Italian hospitality.

Just like good Italian food the menu is simple and delectable. Start with a traditional aperitif such as Prosecco (sparkling Italian wine) with soda and orange, entrée such as the antipasto plate (soft cheeses and cured meats, char-grilled veges and marinated olives) or zucchini flowers stuffed with cous cous and veges and bruschetta.

Pastas are all delicious and made in-house except the linguine include cannelloni, lasagne and gnocchi while other favourites in the Secondi section include Saltimbocca alla Romana and Porschetta Arrosto Alla Erbe (free range pork belly stuffed with fresh herbs).

Otherwise the pizza menu (some of the best in town) is extensive and features a mix of traditional (try the Alla Romano) and a handful of Oz toppings.

Make sure to leave room for some of the delicious desserts like the melt-in-the-mouth tiramisu (cream and nutella-based), and Cannoli Siciliani and finish with the Colle Rosse night cap liqueur é a shot of hot chocolate mixed with baileys or Frangelico.

Being a family business, children are more than welcome and there's a special kids menu with a choice of spaghetti, short pasta, pizza, schnitzel or fish'n'chips.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
