Mr Edward's Alehouse and Kitchen  is an ambient oasis of top notch food, beer and soul nestled on a corner at the Botanic Gardens end of Brisbane’s CBD.

Inside the dining area and bar has a warm pub like feel, with black leather chairs, ambient down lighting tables crafted from recycled wood from an old Queenslander and a feature wall with a black and white photo of Edward Street in 1910, while in the background an Old Skool soundtrack of motown, soul and rock’n’roll keeps things upbeat.

Outside a spacious wraparound terrace overlooking some of the city’s finest heritage buildings makes a superb place to kick back in the afternoon sun with a craft beer or catch some morning rays with an excellent cup of Locale coffee and the city's best value breakfast.

On tap at Mr Edward's are a hand-picked selection of Coopers Ales, (chosen due to Coopers being the last of the Australian family-owned breweries) including the limited edition Coopers Vintage 15, as well as the highly recommended house lager from Danger Brewing Co.

The massive bottled beer selection also encompasses Coopers Vintage and Corona, along with a host of craft beers such as Feral Hop Hog, Bridge Road Celtic Red or Pale Ale, Mountain Goat Steam Ale, offerings from Newstead and Burleigh Brewing Co and so forth. There’s also a Bottled Cider and Ginger Beer menu that includes Tappo Apple and Pear or Apple and Cherry Cider and Royal Jamaican Ginger Beer. And not to be missed is the special menu of Dessert beers by Bacchus Brewing Co – think Lamington Dark Ale, White Chocolate Pilsner and Maple Coffee Stout.

It’s not just about beer at this alehouse though – champagne aficionados will find Piper Heidsick Champagne and wine drinkers can choose from wines from a selection from New Zealand, Australia, Spain and Italy .

On the food front, Mr Edward's Kitchen dishes up some fantastic nosh that is closer to fine dining than gastropub, but without the fuss or the price tag. The Irish chef has cut his teeth with some Michelin starred European restaurants and the result is a menu that makes this a serious dining destination as well as an alehouse.

Lunch customers can choose from mostly under $20 deliciousness like Cheeky Beef Burger, Superfood Salad (with Russian Red Kale, Mesculin, Pearl Bocconcini and Goji Gerries), Coconut Crumbed Scampi or Mr Edwards Daily Pie with rustic cut rosemary chips and side salad, 200g Rump Steak with rustic chips, salad, Cafe de Paris butter or Pepper Sauce, with Carlsberg Lager, house wine or soft drink.

At any time of day diners can partake in some delicious Charcuterie, (perfectly matched with beers and served with cave-aged cheddar), fresh cut from the charcuterie cabinet which takes pride of place along one wall.

And for dinner, there are mains such as Duck Confit with Pommes Dauphinoise, sauté apple and red cabbage, fish of the day, vegetarian pasta or 14 hour Slow Cooked Beef Cheek with Kalecanon Mash. Or tuck into one of the fantastic share plates such as Mixed Seafood Paella, delicious 480g Harissa Marinated Pork Loin Noisettes with Caprese salad and slow-cooked beetroot or the highly recommended 500g Flank Steak with cherry tomato on vine, caramelised shallots and salsa verde.

Must-try here too are the desserts – choose from Chocolate Stout Brownie, Apple Cider Baked Cheesecake, or. for the ultimate indulgence, the Deep Fried Mars Bar and ice-cream, wrapped in filo pastry. A real treat though are the liquid desserts - flavoured Dessert Beers from Bacchus Brewing Co - try the Lamington Dark Ale, Belgian Mocha Stout, Jaffa Cake Ale or Sex, Drugs and Rocky Road.

And did we mention Mr Edwards breakfast menu, the city's best kept secret? Open from Monday to Friday, you won't find a better affordable place to eat a good breakfast in the city. Think Avo and Feta on Toast with raspberry reduction, Toasted Muesli, Classic Bacon and Eggs for $10 or less, Thick Cut Toast and Spreads or Muffins for under $5, and working up to the 'Full Mr Edwards' (artisan pork sausage, soft poached eggs, bacon, roasted cherry tomatoes, black pudding and home-made Coopers beer bread for just $13. And highly recommended are the Dark Chocolate Belgian Waffles with berry compote and vanilla bean ice-cream for $12.

Lastly, there's also a small kids menu including Chicken Strips or Crumbed Chicken Fillet with chips or Vegetarian Pasta.
