Umdorman Sudanese Restaurant

Moorooka

Updated: Jul 19, 2022

UMDORMAN HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

This is a simple and clean no-frills Sudanese restaurant with shiny plastic tablecloths and a resident table or two of local men chatting and hanging out.

Despite the comprehensive menu board the main meals are served from the bain-marie at the counter and this is where the remarkable value kicks in.

Combinations starting with 3 veg and basmati style rice, up to 2 meat and 2 veg with rice range in price at around $15 dollars for a heaped plate.

Dishes vary day by day but may include an okra and vege stew, a mild lamb curry, baked fish or eggplant stew, all of which are mildly flavoured and hearty with melt in the mouth meat. Pasta can find its way into the bain maries from time to time as a result of a past era of Italian takeover.

Salads, soups such as lentil and breads are available as extras.

Note that for religious purposes alcohol is not permitted on the premises.
