Heal House is Brisbane’s most exclusive guest house – a magnificent historic Queenslander with just three luxury suites tucked away in a quiet New Farm Street.

For overseas and interstate visitors looking for a unique stay that is first class, quintessentially Brisbane and conveniently located, Heal House is the place. And for Brisbane residents wanting a quick and easy escape from the ordinary or to celebrate a special occasion, this splendid sanctuary should be top of the list.

Charming hosts Bryce and Lindsay have created an idyllic retreat of understated luxury in a century old house that retains all of its character while featuring every possible mod con of comfort. Three suites – The Master, Executive and Verandah are cocooned discreetly from each other – and each have their own unique personality and amenity while retaining the overall heritage style of the house.

The Master can be found at the front of the house and features a king bed with French doors leading to a huge ensuite with free-standing bath and a walk-through wardrobe. Meanwhile the Executive and Verandah (the most secluded) are at the rear of the house, each with luxuriant queen size beds, traditional sash windows overlooking the garden, dressing rooms and ensuites with decadent showers.

In the centre of Heal House is the spacious high-ceilinged guest lounge with VJ walls, decorative fretwork, cornices, picture rails and a Bose Blue Tooth Soundlink and it is here that guests can take time out to relax. In addition sitting rooms, verandahs and the back garden have nooks with seating that all guests are encouraged to utilise during their stay.

Off the main lounge is a fully equipped state of the art guest kitchen adjacent to a sunroom-style dining room, where guests can help themselves to a gourmet continental breakfast in the mornings, or, if they prefer, order a delicious à la carte cooked breakfast prepared by their hosts.

A Nespresso machine is on hand in the kitchen for coffee, and when it comes to evening drinks, Heal House has an honesty bar system, with a mini bar in the dining cove that guests can avail themselves of.

Heal House has enjoyed a colourful history, from the family home of an early Brisbane shire mayor to its more recent years as a boarding house full of characters.

Need to know – Heal House suites can be booked out altogether (a highly recommended place for a pre-wedding get-ready or family reunion) or individually. Guests only are allowed on the property. Limited off-street parking is available for small cars.

Nice to know – Heal House’s fantastic location means that guests are in walking distance of a host of local attractions, including the Brisbane Riverwalk, retro New Farm Cinemas, New Farm Park and James St as well as the art galleries and night life of Fortitude Valley. Recommended local eateries and bars include A Cafe called Kevin, Gerties Bar, The Continental Cafe and Hellbound. The in-room compendium has many more great suggestions.
