Airtrain
Brisbane
Getting to and from the airport in any major city can be a time-consuming and expensive pain in the baggage compartment, but travellers in Brisbane have been enjoying the benefits of hopping on the Airtrain since it started operating in 2001. No traffic jams, road tolls or trying to find a last-minute carpark. Not to mention that it will take you right to the City centre close to the Convention Centre, hotels, shops and more. Plus it’s good for the environment.
Airtrain is introducing some great cost-cutting deals, with a discount for all online bookings and some new discounts for groups of two or more. It’s already quite a bit cheaper than a taxi to hop on board the Airtrain to get from the city to the airport or vice versa, and with the new pricing structure, there’s even more reason to give the cars and taxis a miss. For instance with the online group pricing, prices start at $27 for two people travelling from the airport to the city compared with about an average fare of $43 for a taxi.
For lovers of everything iPhone, there’s even a Brisbane Airtrain app to purchase e-tickets – an Australian public transport first. The app can be used to display a ticket barcode when entering and exiting a station, and features timetable information and a “Next Trains Today” function showing the next train’s departure from any station on the Airport and Gold Coast lines.
More services have also been added, with the Airtrain now offering 100 services on weekdays from 5am-10pm and 66 services on weekends from 6am-10pm.
