Death & Taxes
Brisbane CBD
Death & Taxes is a gorgeous old-world cocktail lounge and wine bar tucked away in Brisbane's oldest laneway, Burnett Lane.
Look out for the Grim Reaper facing off with the lions on the walls of the courtyard outside then step through the grand, carved wooden door with the lion knockers and tiled 'welcome mat' to find one of the city's most ambient bars.
Death & Taxes is from the same canny folk who own Finney Isles and Savile Row and West End's Cobbler. Like the latter two, this one is a whiskey lovers' dream, with hundreds of whiskeys available, along with some 70 gins, 40-50 rums and other premium spirits.
Patrons at Death & Taxes can opt pull up a leather bar stool at the window, along the decorative bar or retreat to the sunning vintage lounge out back with its crystal chandelier, wood panelling and 100-year-old polished floorboards and take a seat at one of the old Hollywood-style curved leather booths.
Along with the spirits, Death & Taxes has a great, curated wine list of about 40 excellent wines and champagnes, a number of beers on tap and a cracking creative cocktail menu of around 30 originals including Death & taxes take on the Old Fashioned.
Need to know - You'll find Death & Taxes at the George St side of Burnett Lane, just down from the entrance to Hyatt Regency Brisbane, and before you reach the connecting bridge.
