Taro's Vegan Ramen
Brisbane CBD
TARO'S VEGAN RAMEN HAS CLOSED AS OF MAY 2019.
Taro's Vegan Ramen is a dedicated vegan ramen bar from Brisbane's renowned ramen master Taro Akimoto.
Formerly known as Taro's Express, the Edward Street eatery has re-launched as the city's first vegan ramen joint dishing up bowls of plant-based broth with home made wheat and konnyaku noodles, topped with braised tofu, bamboo, sprouts, shallots, sesame seeds and nori.
Customers can slurp classic ramen, red ramen with home made chilli oil, or fire tonkotsu with 4 different hits of chilli: chilli oil, chilli flakes, extra spicy chilli oil, and shredded chilli. Otherwise, there's hiyashi tan tan men (cold noodle soup), tsukemen (cold noodles with hot dipping sauce), gluten-free mild curry with rice, and braised tofu charsiu salad.

In addition, there's a range of sides from edamame and house fermented kimchi to seaweed salad and seasonal greens; as well as desserts such as vegan Serendipity ice-cream, dorayaki (red bean pancakes) and anmitsu, a traditional Japanese cold dessert.
As for drinks there's green tea, matcha soy milkshakes, soft drinks and a small selection of alcoholic beverages including wine, plum wine and Japanese Orion beer.
Customers can dine inside the little ramen restaurant or al fresco with tables provided out front. Take-away is available but not encouraged as the ramen noodles turn soft quickly.
Nice to know - If you prefer the original pork bone broth, Taro’s Queen Street, South Brisbane and Ascot stores continue to serve traditional tonkatsu ramen.
