The Fish Factory
Morningside
The Fish Factory in Morningside is renowned in Brisbane for its wide array of fresh seafood with the added bonus of having a bistro attached.
This local fish market has been fishmongering locally sourced, fresh seafood since 1976, from whole fish and fillets to shellfish and more. Recently renovated, the market now boasts itself as one of Brisbane's largest seafood markets, as well as being the oldest.
Open to the public seven days a week, customers are spoiled for choice with the bounty of succulent seafood on display. Fresh fish includes barramundi and Atlantic salmon, red emperor and yellow fin tuna, trevally and sweetlip, swordfish and ocean trout; while shellfish ranges from Mooloolaba king prawns and Moreton Bay bugs, to WA lobsters, Alaskan king crabs and live Queensland mud crabs. In addition, there's oyster opening on-site.
Adjacent to the fish market is a modern bistro with indoor and outdoor dining. The extensive menu ranges from fish and chips (choose barramundi, Tassie salmon, goldband snapper, sea perch or whiting) to the Fish Factory's signature seafood platter piled with ocean king prawns, Moreton bay bugs, oysters Kilpatrick, coconut battered prawns, panko crumbed barramundi fish fingers, calamari, scallops, mussels and more.
Light eats consist of fish bites like house made salmon arancini and lobster sliders, while more substantial fare includes spaghetti marinara made with all local ingredients: king prawns, pipis, reef fish, Hervey bay scallops, Moreton Bay bugs and Tasmanian salmon. Alternatively, there's classic Angus beef burgers and grilled chicken burgers.
Nice to know - When Mel Gibson was in town in late 2019 he was a customer.
Need to know - The bistro is licensed with craft beer on tap plus wine.
