Andrew Drynan Park

Camping

Updated: Nov 04, 2020

Situated in the Scenic Rim near the New South Wales border, Andrew Drynan Park is a popular campsite for those seeking serenity and seclusion.

A two-hour drive from Brisbane via Beaudesert, this bush camp is located along the Lions Road Rainforest Way - the Lions Road being a shorter scenic link between Beaudesert and Grafton - with an impressive backdrop formed by Mount Chinghee.

Suitable for small caravans, camping trailers and tents, you can set up wherever you want, with plenty of wide-open spaces and tall trees to choose from. With the stresses of city living behind you, swing in a hammock, read a book or swim in Running Creek. When the sun sets, light up the campfire and roast some marshmallows before falling into slumber, serenaded by the sound of the creek.

If you do feel the need to do something other than rest and relax, Border Ranges National Park and the Border Loop Lookout (overlooking the ingenious spiral loop railway line) is just a short drive away, as are the country towns of Rathdowney (Qld) and Kyogle (NSW); the latter hosting a farmers market every Saturday morning.

Need to know - This is camping without convenience. All sites are unpowered, water must be boiled before drinking (or BYO) and there are no showers. However, the campground does have flush toilets.

Nice to know - Dogs are welcome (on a lead) and booking is not necessary, but is advisable at Easter and other peak times.
