Ryan Street
Footpath Library
Tucked away on the edge of a suburban garden in West End is a teensy ‘community library’, an initiative of and designed by the architect owner of the Queenslander cottage.
Constructed of ironbark timber, with fibreglass roof, the tardis-like book stall offers a carefully arranged selection of books for locals to borrow, exchange and donate.
Since opening, the collection has grown to more than 200 books, including children’s books, novels, cookbooks, architecture and technical books.
Nice to know - The street library movement is expanding across Australia, with these small repositories of literature and knowledge popping up in suburban front yards and inspiring communities to connect.
